“ This is a nice, quaint Ethiopian restaurant. They have a nice variety of Ethiopian dishes. All dishes are available for family style upon request. We chose the vegetable sampler along with a few small dishes. Everything was prepared very well. The service is very friendly and will gladly give recommendations and explain dishes to people who are unfamiliar with Ethiopian cuisine. They also have wine and Ethiopian beer. ”
“ TRULY 5stars, the food nourishes me like no where else I have been. Home cooked quality (literally by the kindest of chefs) and authentic:) From the first moment walking into this place, I felt like I was entering a place of peace and love. I recommend the 5 Veggie Platter.. I get this every time, and literally come every time I am in the area of Tampa now:) ”
“ Open late till 10 pm!! If you've EVER wanted to try amazing Ethiopian food, you need to come here! Athena took care of us and she's is the sweetest lady everrrr! They make homemade Honey Wine, and the lamb is my favorite thing on the menu! All of the veg sides are incredibly delicious and the injera is so tasty and perfect for scooping all the yummy meat and veggies into your mouth! They can make everything less spicy on request too! The location is tucked into a quiet little plaza so it's not over packed with tons of people! Please check this place out! ”
“ A great and authentic local business! Athena, our hostess, was so personable and easy to talk too. She made us feel very welcomed and was very accommodating. We got the sambusa, kitfo, and beef tibs which came with the injera platter. The portion sizes were generous and the food was flavorful and perfectly salted and seasoned. I'm glad to have found a place that serves amazing ethiopian food near me. Even though, I never grew up eating Ethiopian food. Eating mitmita's food gives me the same homey, mom and pop feeling as eating my mom's chicken noodle soup. I highly recommend that you try this recommend. I will be bringing my friends to try it. ”
“ I tutor the owner's daughter of this restaurant, and the food here is amazing. I normally get a meal after the tutoring session, and I haven't had one thing yet that I do not love. I got the fish for the first time tonight, and it is delicious! Honestly, some of the best cooked and seasoned fish I have ever gotten out at a restaurant. Everyone should give this place a try! ”
“ This is 100% MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT OF ALL TIME!! There's so many great things to say about Mitmita and the family that owns it, that it would take hra to say it all!! The first time I had Ethiopian food was 18 years ago in DC. I LOVED IT! That experience stuck with me, and FINALLY, 9ish yrs ago I came across Mitmita! I was thinking about that 1st experience, and decided to Google if there were any places in my family's City (Sarasota). There aren't! The closest place is Mitmita, an hour away in Tampa. I never forgot and FINALLY we were going up there for some reason & I jumped at the chance to go! My mom and I were greeted by this smiling, peaceful, beautiful soul... the Matriarch of the family owned restaurant. Her husband is the sole cook, and she handles the Front. Their young daughter was hanging out doing homework and answering the phone with her mother's permission. THEY IMMEDIATELY BECAME FAMILY!! She took the time to chat with my mom and I, explain the menu with us and called us by our names. I've now currently eaten at 1 other Ethiopian place in Tampa (no comparison, 1/10), a place in Indianapolis (I took my fiance so he could try Ethiopian food for the 1st time, 8/10), and 1 in Brooklyn (my brother took me when I went to visit him, 9/10). BUT I'm not exaggerating when I say NONE surpass Mitmita!!! 10 out of 10 in every way!! The place is decorated with Traditional items, colors and photos of historic figures from Ethiopia, and the Country's flag. It's beautiful. The food is made with love and you know from 1st bite! The flavors explode in your mouth and are the best I've tasted at any of the places I've been. It is my favorite cuisine and this place is THE ONE!!! We met the whole family that day, and it was a privilege to meet her daughter too. Because we're an hour away, sadly we don't get to go there often. Sometimes it's only once a year, and it's been even less than that at times. Well! It has literally brought tears to my eyes.. because regardless of how often I come, these beautiful souls especially "Mama" (she'll laugh at that) remember me and my name!! Since the very first time she has remembered me and we hug every time I come in! She knows my mom and my Fiance now too! The love that that family has is just the best thing you could ever ask for... Their food being a VERY close second to the family you become to them and them to you! This sounds insane but when I got very ill 3 yrs ago and started seeing Specialists in Tampa, I was delighted that I would at least go see my family at Mitmita and gorge myself on the best food you can. Imagine. The prices great, the servings/plates are HUGE, and again... NO other place compares!! And seeing my beautiful second mother, the joy on her face and how my heart grows when we see each other as she shouts my name in happiness, and getting to hug each other long and hard before catching up on life is more than you could ever ask for from most blood family members! This family works morning to night to share their love in the form of food and kindness and it truly shows!! I cannot wait until my Drs appt next month so we can return! I will always come back. And once you visit, you will too! ”
“ My family has been eating here for years. I love this place and the owners as well. I kinda feel like good people will give you good food. And that’s definitely this place. ”
“ This restaurant is so good. The food is very affordable. The service is amazing and the owners are so lovely. I came here with my sister and father and we ordered a vegetable platter and the Ye-doro watt to share. It was an interesting experience using the injera to eat but everything was so flavorful and delicious. We also ordered the beef and chicken sambusas which were amazing as well. I highly recommend this place if you’re wanting to try some authentic Ethiopian food! ”
